Being is always Interbeing

Dharmatalks from Karl Riedl – Retreat with the Italian Sangha, August 2021

The term Interbeing, coined by Thich Nhat Hanh, expresses the mutual interpenetration and interweaving of all that exists as well as mutual conditionality, which excludes an isolated independent self. This grand, limitless and comprehensive view develops organically and smoothly by the diminishing of our narrow ego through our practice.

It is the practice of mindfulness, of being present, which helps us to leave our conditioned mind behind, being established in the here and now, in the present moment, in the clear and open mind. We naturally and gently grow out of our self-centered boundaries and realize our fundamental connectedness with all beings. All demarcations and divisions drop and our heart opens into empathy.
